I wanted to ask about News-Journal’s interest in maintaining the two party stranglehold on this country. Are our tax dollars supporting your publication as well as Wall Street?
My question is prompted by your slipshod coverage of the Senate debate. Your publication afforded the Libertarian Party candidate, Yvonne Schick, two sentences and neither included anything of substance. Third party candidates are rarely invited to debates at all and in this one, hosted by the League of Women Voters, Ms. Schick was invited and amazingly given equal time. Hell, that alone is newsworthy in an era of manufactured sound bites. I think it a bonus that she was the only one who supported getting government back to its proper- and constitutional role.
Please do the job a free and open press is sworn to do and cover all the candidates, not just the ones your editorial board thinks have a shot at winning. Then I can get back to being a good neighbor; I can take down the yard sign that informs my neighborhood that there are other choices beside the Rs and Ds reported in the news. Since I'd like to help you get started, allow me to mention that there are ten candidate tickets on the Texas ballot for president alone.
Longview is a small town, but it's not a slow town. We can handle all the infomation required to make an intelligent choice in the voting booth without your whittling down of the facts. When your paper realizes that, I might restart my subscription.
